Dungannon Care Home offers accommodation for residents with Learning Disabilities, on a permanent, short stay or respite basis. The home has 36 beds. The home has a team of registered nurses and well trained, dedicated care assistants that provide an excellent standard of 24-hour care.

The Home is situated along the Killyman Road in Dungannon. Respite
Learning disabilities

We had a dedicated activity co-ordinator who ensures the residents have something stimulating and enjoyable to look forward to that interests them. The home has its own big area dedicated to activities, which consists of an activity room, music or soon to be pottery room, a hairdressing room for beauty therapy, Jacuzzi bathroom and a sensory room. The home offers a variety of activities such as, aromatherapy, reflexology, arm chair aerobics, arts and craft, beauty therapy and outdoor activities such as bus trips, bowling, swimming, pottery, arts and craft/sensory therapy in Portadown. The home has its own bus for the residents. The home also schedules holidays for the residents three times in a year for three days each. We also celebrate with paries like a Halloween disco, Christmas party, summer barbeques and other seasonal events. We also invite, at least yearly, a mobile farm for the residents to enjoy. The home is visited by the Vinyard Church once a month for sermons and singing. Our nutritionally balancedmenu is carefully prepared by our own Chef and reviewed sixth monthly and must be validated by the dietician. We also have an assistant cook loves to do baking so the home has its own baked cakes and pastries.

Nurse

Working in the home with learning disability is not as easy as I thought but due to the easy access and help from other multi-disciplinary team we can easily achieved the best care. As a nurse, we are delighted to see that we are helping these people maintaining their independence as much as possible or if they need a total care, we we’re able to provide it for them with sense of privacy and dignity at all times.

My brother James has been a resident of Dungannon Care Home for many years. I can safely say that the care home is an outstanding example of what a care home for the disabled should be. The attention, respect and affection given to my brother in every aspect of care are exemplary and he is extremely contented and happy to be there. The standard of cleanliness, the well balanced meals, the activities, the administration are all excellent as is the communication between the care home and myself. The staff keep me well informed of James progress and there are regular meetings on a one to one basis, as well as many opportunities to meet other relatives of the residents. I have the highest regard for the care home and all the staff involved in making it the excellent facility that it is.

The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) inspect and regulate our care homes in N. Ireland.

Inspectors really praised the homes improvement. Documentation is good. Annual Care Review Forms are very good. The Wardrobe is very nice, neat and tidy. The residents are cared well and staff are very friendly.
