Care Assistant

On achieving the PEARL I feel very proud to be working at Stobhill Care Home.

Stobhill Care Home, Glasgow City

We provide care to meet different levels of need from personal care to nursing care. We are able to support residents and their families with complex palliative care needs in symptom control and also use the Liverpool Care Pathway at end of life. The home is part of the Clutha House Medical Practice with access to clinical and mental health liaison nurses, speech and language therapists, dentists, opticians, podiatrists, dieticians and Falls Team Support. The home also has very close working relations with the local Marie Curie centre. The home has well trained, highly competent, registered nurses covering 24 hours per day. Working alongside them are our care assistants with a high percentage trained to SVQ Level 2 and above or currently on the SVQ programme. Stobhill is a well maintained comfortable home. It has several lounges on both floors with lovely views over the Campsie Fells as well as other rooms such as Memory Lane - a room decorated in the style of the 1950’s to stimulate memories. We have a sensory room to promote calm and relaxation and we also have a hairdressing salon within the home. All our bedrooms are single rooms with their own en-suite toilet and wash basin, and all have a window with a view. Our garden is furnished with mature plants and a patio area with raised beds to encourage residents to touch and participate in planting. We are currently developing our garden further to provide a sensory garden for our residents with Dementia. Residents are encouraged to make their room as personal as they wish and can choose the colour of the walls to make them feel more homely. All rooms have Four Seasons standard features such as nurse call system, smoke detector and window restrictors. Stobhill has a mixture of under floor heating and electric heating. Stobhill is a non smoking home and there is no provision for smoking.

Lifestyle and Activities

We have a dedicated Personal Activity Leader who arranges activities to suit everyone’s needs, likes and dislikes. These range form group activities to one to one sessions and a survey is carried out every six months to ensure residents are consulted on any future planed activities or outings. Currently we have a varied programme which includes quizzes, games, outings, reminiscence, exercise groups and we have a regular entertainer in to visit the home every two weeks.
