Pearl Specialised Dementia Service (Buchanan House Care Home)

The Pearl Specialised Dementia Service is provided in Buchanan House, a purpose built care home. Every detail has been researched to ensure we achieve an environment which will enable the resident to maintain the highest possible level of independence and freedom of choice.

We have ensured that the residents will benefit from the design, layout and excellent facilities provided. The accommodation includes en-suite shower facilities with specialist bathing equipment also available to aid comfort and freedom of choice. All of our rooms are for single occupancy and all are en-suite, some have their own shower.

Buchanan House is situated in the Bearsden suburb of Glasgow, within easy reach of shops and other amenities, public transport and the motorway. Specifically, the Milngavie Shopping Area is only half a mile away.

Location

From the City Centre
Take Great Western Road from Anniesland Cross, then A739/A81 Aberfoyle/Bearsden Cross. At St Andrews College fork right, A809 and at Stockiemuir roundabout, go left to Baljaffray Road, take first left opening and turn left again into Grampian Way, leading to the Buchanan complex.

From Clydebank
At the Boulevard roundabout take the A8014 to the Hardgate roundabout, then follow the A810 to Bearsden. At St Andrews College turn left onto the A809. Then as above.

From Milngavie
At the Stockiemuir roundabout, go straight ahead to Baljaffray Road. Then as above.

Facilities

Dementia care is provided at our home within the Pearl Specialised Dementia Service. This means that the environment has been developed and adapted to the needs of residents with dementia and we can offer as much independence and stimulation as possible within safe boundaries.

The expertise of our caring team is to recognise and enable each resident to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they can continue to do so. Our programme is based on the theories of ‘person centred care' and all of our care plans are tailored around the residents' needs and capabilities. These are adjusted to provide additional support over time.

Buchanan House is tastefully decorated and features lounges and quiet sitting rooms, in a purpose built setting. Separate dining rooms, where residents can join the company of others at meal times, are also an important feature of the home.

Our Chef prepares a wide range of home cooked food based upon traditional cooking using fresh produce and special diets are catered for.

The home is attended by an experienced hair stylist, a qualified chiropodist and a range of complementary therapies can be arranged to suit individual requirements.

A varied programme of activities also takes place in the home and we have a highly skilled activities therapist.
