Saving Energy, Saving Money and Saving the Planet.
We are all conscious of the effect that man is having on the planet and conscious also of the spiralling cost of energy.
At the Kyoto Summit in 1997, the UK agreed to a 12.5 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2008 to 2012.
In his April 2009 Budget Alistair Darling committed the UK to a 34% reduction in our carbon emissions by 2020. Addressing climate change and the UK's impact on global warming, government has set some stiff targets:
- A 60% reduction in UK carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.
- By 2012 the government's office estate will be carbon neutral.
- A 30% reduction in carbon emissions from central government buildings by 2020, and 10% of UK energy generation from renewable by 2010.
By adopting renewable technologies we all (businesses and householders) can save money, save energy and help save the planet.
Four Seasons Health Care is committed to reducing its own carbon emissions footprint by at least 15% by the year 2015.
To back up this commiment the group is making an initial investment of £2.5million in energy efficiency ideas.
Improving heating and hot water systems
Four Seasons has committed to auditing its facilities and either replacing boilers or installing boiler control improvements where appropriate.
So far (Jan 11) we have equipped 54 boiler rooms with new heating systems and in many cases hot water systems, using new high efficiency condensing boilers that are up to 50% more efficient. We have installed 30 boiler optimisation units that control the ways boilers burn gas making them up to 20% more energy efficient.
Insulation
So far over 20,000 low energy bulbs have been purchased and are now being fitted across all our facilities drastically reducing energy consumption.
Energy Champions
Every facility within the company has appointed an energy champion who works with the staff to consider energy saving ideas and implementing initiatives.
