The staff at Dounemount were always friendly and helpful. I know that she enjoyed her stay whilst she was able to be up. I was impressed with the standard of nursing care once she became unable to get up.

Dounemount Care Home in Macduff has embraced everything Scottish as they welcomed entertainment into the home.

Kay Robertson, Home Manager, said: “We enjoy providing special experiences which make a difference to the residents’ lives here in Dounemount. We had some very Scottish themed entertainers come in. The first being children from Macduff Primary School who came to sing Christmas carols. Everyone thought they did a fantastic job.

We also played host to a Highland Dance Class, who came and showcased their routines. Some of our residents were so enamoured with what they saw that they showed off their moves as well. It was a great day!”

The home also welcomed Sheena, the Community Team Leader from Tesco in Banff, as she took on her 12 days of Christmas challenge.

Kay Robertson, Home Manager, explained: “Sheena came bearing gifts for the residents and spent time getting to know them and having a right old chin wag. The residents are looking forward to welcoming her back another time.”

Northeast-Tea-Dance-December-2016

6 Jan 2017

Residents from 8 Four Seasons care homes in Northumberland revived the traditional tea dance when they got together for a social afternoon on Wednesday 21st December 2016 at the New Delaval & Newsham Working Men’s Club. They were joined by friends, relatives and staff, and members of the local community.

As well as taking to the dance floor, guests were invited to take part in a sing-along session and bingo. There was a range of refreshments served and a chance to take part in a raffle.

Rob Heane, Regional Manager for Four Seasons in Northumberland, said, “The social afternoon is a great way for residents to get out enjoying themselves, to meet people from other Four Seasons care homes and engage with members of the wider local community. This event is a regular occurrence, and it’s great to see it go from strength to strength each time we run it. Here’s to the next one.”

The afternoon and early evening dances, with a civilised break for tea and refreshments, are coming back into vogue. Before the 1950s, tea dances were a popular way to socialise; however, they declined in the 60s as the club and disco scene emerged. They are now beginning to make a return to popularity, possibly linked to the success of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Christmas definitely arrived in Macduff as residents, relatives and visitors to Dounemount Care Home celebrated the festive period in style.

The home held a Christmas Party which rivaled those of previous years. Residents embraced their inner elf, dressing up in any festive way they could whilst taking it in turns to sing on the karaoke machine.

Once the karaoke session had finished, the disco started which saw everyone up on their feet dancing the night away.

Kay Robertson, Home Manager, said: “Everyone had a lovely time. Some of the karaoke songs were Christmas hits, which saw everyone singing along. It’s definitely one of the best Christmas parties we’ve held here at the home.”
