Southfield Court takes the lead on ability

Ability, not disability, was top of the agenda when Southfield Court in Huddersfield were presented with the government's prestigious ‘Two Ticks' Disability Symbol, marking their commitment to helping employees with disabilities, and developing the levels of disability awareness in the work place.

Michelle Prime, Manager of Southfield Court said:
"I'm delighted we have met the criteria to receive to use the Disability Two tick symbol. I firmly believe our organisation is taking a positive lead on disability and other diversity issues, and we are delighted show diversity is about the recognition and valuing of difference in its broadest sense. We aim to create a working culture and practices recognising, respecting, valuing and harnessing differences for the benefit of the organisation and the individual."

Arranged in conjunction with Jobcentre Plus, the Two Tick certificates were presented at a special ceremony at Southfield Court Care Home.

"I'm delighted we are able to work with Southfield Court," Helen explained. "It is great they have taken such a positive step in their commitment towards disabled employees. Employers need to make sure they find the right person for the job and it makes sense to consider the potential of all applicants, whether disabled or not, otherwise they risk losing out."

Working closely with Jobcentre Plus, staff and management at the nursing home have demonstrated a commitment to measures that encourage disabled job applicants, and develop the full potential of disabled staff enabling them to compete on an equal basis with other applicants and employees.
