Apr 14th, 2011 - Summerdale Court celebrates Mother’s day in style

Summerdale Court celebrated Mother’s Day with wine and champagne. It was a great day for our residents, families and staff. The day was topped up by the ‘mother’ of the house (Manager), cutting the cake and giving a piece to all including fathers. The cake was homemade by one of the staff who is a specialist. “We sang ‘sing along songs’ and engaged in a reminiscent activity about our mothers, which sparked wonderful memories and much laughter!” Rosalind, Home Manager.

Apr 14th, 2011 - Dignity Day At Chasedale Care Home

Chasedale Care Home adopted the sunflower as their logo for Dignity Action Day. They designed a sunflower with ten petals each one highlighting the points of the Dignity in Care Challenge. They also made sunflower Dignity Day badges which were sold to friends, family and staff, the proceeds went to the resident’s funds.

Lynette Elliott the manager opened the event by stressing the importance of Dignity and respect within care and staff were encouraged to sign up as Dignity Champions. This was followed by the Irish band ‘Flynn’ who played and sang to residents, families and friends. Everyone had a wonderful time singing along and dancing. Refreshments complemented the overall theme and the front of the home was decorated with bunting to promote Dignity Action Day. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Apr 5th, 2011 - Wimborne Care Home residents enjoy a pampering day

Wimborne Care Home held a pamper day for Dignity Action day where staff offered foot spas, hand massages, nail varnishing and make up sessions. The residents had booked their treatments the day before and some staff came in their own time to ensure all the residents had a bit of pamper time.

Apr 5th, 2011 - Italia comes to Croxteth Park

On Dignity Action Day Croxteth Park Care Home gave a resident an extra special day, the resident lives on the dementia unit and most days packs her belonging and wants to go back to Italy so for dignity day they brought Italy her, residents enjoyed spaghetti Bolognese and pizza’s, an Italian wine tasting day and had an afternoon listening to Italian music.

Lisa Sutton the Home Manager said ‘Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day; it was really heart warming to see the residents enjoying the experience”

Apr 5th, 2011 - Facebook arrives at Millbrow Care Home

The residents at Millbrow Care Home in Widnes are learning how to use the facebook social networking site and Skype. It is all part of a computer project set up to mark Dignity Action day and raise awareness to combat abuse of elderly people.

Cath Rowlands, the home’s Activity Co-ordinator, said “There’s a buzz of excitement as residents are getting their own laptop. We have set up their own email and we are showing them how to use facebook and skype. Margaret a resident at Millbrow was able to speak to one of her daughter’s who lives in Australia. A listening clinic has also been set up so residents can raise any worries or concerns.
