A resident at Coolaness Care Home in Northern Ireland celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday the 18th of September. Annie McArt was born in 1911 and enjoyed music and dancing. The celebrations started the day before with a visit from her Parish Priest and relatives coming to Coolaness for Mass followed by a buffet tea.

Annie’s birthday morning started with her getting all dressed up for the day and she received a card from the queen and a letter and a gift from the President of Ireland. She had a birthday party at Mahon’s Hotel where family and close friends joined her for dinner. She then enjoyed some music and dancing. Annie said ‘I would love to be younger with what I now know’.

4Domnall Intermediate Care Centre hired the Belfast City tour bus for the afternoon and a group of 50 patients, relatives and staff headed off on what turned out to be a great day. They all enjoyed chips from Northern Ireland’s oldest chip shop and then drove past the sights of the city of Belfast which included the City Hall and Harland and Wolf, home of the Titanic. It was a real trip down memory lane.4

I enjoy making a difference to other people’s lives.
