Members of the team at Burlington Court Care Home in Glasgow have recently been inundated with ROCK Awards which were presented to the team in a special awards ceremony at the home this month. All the nominees were put forward by relatives who witness the hard work they all put into their roles.

Cheryl Keenan, Mary Matthews, Fatima Susarno and Clare Siegerson all received ROCK Awards after various nominations from relatives. The relatives explained in depth about how each one of them will always go the extra mile to help in any way they can. Residents and relatives were invited to see the awards presentation as a way of thanking each one of them for their commitment. The awards were presented by members of the management team.

The ROCK award is a nationwide internal honour that specifically highlights the impact a Four Season Health Care employee has made on the lives of people living in one of our care homes. Team members are nominated for an award by residents, their relatives or friends, who have witnessed or experienced staff members demonstrating excellent standards of care and kindness in their role.

Gwen McKenzie, Home Manager, explained “I’m really proud of all the team here at Burlington Court. The ROCK Awards signify the hard work and effort they put in on a daily basis. The awards ceremony was a perfect way to give our thanks to each one of them – it was great that residents got to join in too. Well done to Cheryl, Mary, Fatima and Clare!”

The team at Comber Care Home in Comber recently held a coffee morning to raise money for the Northern Ireland Hospice. Residents, relatives and friends of the home were all invited to attend and enjoy some sweet treats, hot drinks and a natter.

There was no shortage of cakes as the dining room was filled with scones, sponges and pastries as well as tea, coffee and hot chocolates – all provided by the chef at Comber. The home was filled full of joy and spirits were high as everyone shared conversations over a cuppa and a cake. The team managed to raise nearly £70 in donations which will go to the Northern Ireland Hospice – a charity which is close to many at Comber Care Home.

Anne Robertson, Home Manager, told us “We had a very lovely coffee morning – there was no need for words when you saw the expressions of the residents as they tucked into the big sticky buns. Waist lines were definitely forgotten for the morning! Thank you to my wonderful team for all their hard work in preparing for the coffee morning”.

A Practice Support Nurse for Four Seasons Health Care has been awarded a space on a travel scholarship which is run by the Florence Nightingale Foundation. The scholarship is designed to give nurses and midwives the chance to study in different areas, in both the UK and overseas, in order for them to enhance their patient care within their roles.

Ann Geraghty, who has been awarded the scholarship, is a Practice Support Nurse for the Northern Ireland and Wales regions of Four Seasons Health Care. Both her and the team she is part of felt it would be a good idea to apply for the scholarship after noticing the difference in practice their colleagues from the EU had brought to the UK. Ann had to go through an interview process and was notified shortly after that she had in fact been awarded the scholarship.

The scholarship will allow Ann to travel to Portugal and Romania to study and learn more about the differences in practice in comparison to the UK – this will enable the company to integrate these findings into our own practice. It will also give Ann the chance to meet with various health care professionals in the UK to share the knowledge gained from the trip.

Melanie Bowden, Practice Support Manager, told us “This is a very prestigious, nationally recognised award and we are so delighted that our practice support team, Ann in particular, have been selected this year. It will allow Ann to be exposed to the differences in practice and pick up skills she can bring back to the UK. We are all very proud of Ann”.

Congratulations Ann Geraghty, from all at Four Seasons Health Care.

Bamford Grange Care Home in Stockport recently held an Autumn Fayre. The team arranged for residents, relatives and friends of the home to join together for a day of fun and enjoyment. As well as refreshments and entertainment, the team also arranged a bric-a-brac sale.

The Autumn Fayre was arranged so the team could raise some money for the resident’s social fund in the run up to the festive season. The bric-a-brac sale turned out to be a huge success and filled a large area outside the home. All the items were donated by members of the team or relatives. There was also some competitions and games for people to get involved with along with music playing throughout the day to keep everyone entertained.

Nicola Hughes, Home Manager, told us “The Autumn Fayre was a great day – the weather stayed fine and everyone enjoyed themselves. I can’t believe how many kind donations we had which meant we raised £677 for the resident’s fund so we can have some fun in the run up to Christmas. We are all so grateful to everyone who came along; we all had a fab day”.

A member from the team at Hamilton Court Care Home in Armagh has recently been praised for the hard work and dedication she puts into her role. She was presented with a ROCK Award by the Home Manager after being nominated by a regular visitor to the home who sees first-hand the effort she puts in.

Helen Bradford, Personal Activities Leader, received her ROCK Award in front of colleagues and residents in a special awards ceremony held at Hamilton Court. The relative who nominated Helen told us “She puts the person first and the dementia second. She actively encourages each resident to participate in some form of activity and chats away to find topics of interest. She gives so much to my Mum, way beyond her duty and for this I’m so grateful”.

Tony Hart, Home Manager, said “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to present this ROCK Award to Helen. She is extremely dedicated in her role and works hard to make sure the residents get the best out of Hamilton Court. Well done Helen!”
