Friends’ Gardening Club Blossoms

Friends’ Gardening Club Blossoms

Residents Mollie, June, Peggy and Ann are firm friends at Abbeylands Care Home in Belfast.

One day while the ladies were on their walk with Personal Activities Leader, Amanda, they noticed a piece of disused garden that had been neglected for some time - so they decided to make it their own!

They planned how they wanted it to look and went to the garden centre for supplies. Within a fortnight it had been transformed with new plants, flowers and colourful decorations. Care Assistant Marina even came in on her day off to fix it up and help scrub the plant pots clean.

When the weather is nice, they go out and potter around the garden and look after their patch with the help of Amanda or Marina.

Marina who has been at Abbeylands for 18 months says: “I love helping residents to continue to do the things they love and finding those little things that make a big difference. Seeing them smile and the enjoyment the garden brings to the ladies is so rewarding.”
