Making care special is at the heart of Amelia House Care Home in York. Our philosophy starts with getting to know each person as an individual and understanding what they need, so we can provide the right kind of care to match. It's simple: the more we know, the better we care.

Our aim is to help people stay as well as they can for as long as they can.

"It is never an easy decision to place a much-loved and respected parent into care, but after a good deal of research and visiting several care homes we knew that Amelia House was the right choice for us. Being purpose-built the building is large, light, and airy and there is plenty of open space for residents to walk around in safety. The communal sitting rooms are comfortable and the dining rooms are furnished more like restaurant rooms. Most importantly, the staff (management, nurses and care assistants) are welcoming, friendly, and very caring; they couldn't do any more for my Dad. He is respected and looked after and treated as an individual. The staff have got to know him as a person and always call him by his name and chat to him about the things that interest him. Since coming to Amelia House my Dad's health has improved and he is much more relaxed and contented than he was at home. He can choose to watch TV or read in his own room (which is a good size and well-furnished) or keep company in the lounge. There is a quiet room for family time if we choose to use it. Family are welcome any time and the staff have got to know us too. We work with them to ensure Dad is as comfortable and content as he can be. We are very grateful to Amelia House for everything they are doing for us as a family."
