Welcome to Amethyst House Care Home
Amethyst House Care Home is a large, specially converted home to the south east of Doncaster, and one of South Yorkshire's most popular nursing and residential homes. And with good reason - our lovely garden with its comfortable seating areas boasts mature trees, flower beds and well-kept lawns. What better excuse to get outside and enjoy a bit of nature's finest?
Our warm and comfortable bedrooms encompass a range of styles, all in keeping with the character of the house and, of our several lounges, the large, bright and airy main room overlooks the peaceful gardens.
Our dedicated registered nurses and care staff provide specialised people-centred residential and nursing care, including short-term respite care.
Life at Amethyst House Care Home
Our activities coordinator organises both group and one-to-one events, which our residents find particularly calming and rewarding. But there's no pressure - all our activities are completely optional.
Our aim is to help people stay as well as they can for as long as they can, so we understand the importance of being active and entertained. Why not arrange a visit and we'll talk you through the facilities and activities on offer at Amethyst House Care Home?
My father spent the last few days of his life in Amethyst House. We were all impressed by the kind, individual focused care he received. He received nothing but respect and warmth, and the staff treated him as a real person, an individual. As far as was possible, his dignity was maintained - and, in medical terms. The home's liaison with local GPs was all we could have hoped for. He died in the presence of kind, sympathetic, concerned carers. He was not alone.
Although my mum was only in Amethyst House 12 days we found the staff exceptionally caring and compassionate. They were very friendly and helpful. My mum was admitted for end of life care and she was regularly checked on every hour and notes recorded in the care plan.
My mother was admitted to the Amethyst in April 2014, with only two weeks to live. With all the care my mother received I had another ten months with my mum. It was a difficult time but Sue was wonderful, and her team did the best they could to look after mum with dignity.
Nice welcoming atmosphere when entering the home, nothing too much trouble for management and staff. All the staff are very friendly and caring, residents were happy and well cared for. Thank you to all the staff.
All the staff are very friendly, caring, are willing to go out of there way to help us as a family and my grandmother especially in time of need.
I would like to thank them for everything they have done up to now for her never met such lovely people/carers.
I would Strongly recommend Amethyst House due to the care and attention my mother in law received. Every one of the staff went an extra mile to make sure her final days were peaceful and pain free. The rooms are modern and the home is well equipped. We went to the home as strangers and came out feeling like family.

As delayed transfers of care remain at record highs, how can we reduce unnecessary hospital stays for older people? That was the key question at an HSJ event held in association with Four Seasons Health Care.
The roundtable heard that the healthcare system often finds reasons not to deal with care home residents and looked at the success of an innovative collaboration between the NHS and care homes in Belfast.
With a collaborative approach between care homes and the NHS, older people are able to leave hospital and receive expert care, whilst assessing whether their long term future would be in their current home or a local care home. “The idea is that it would provide short term rehabilitation in conjunction with the two trusts in that area. The joint partnerships with the trusts I’ve worked with have just been amazing, and that’s what makes it work”, explained Janice Brown, Four Seasons’ regional manager for the Belfast and Newtownabbey area.
In addition to the improvements from a collaborative solution, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust reported that the joint partnership approach of providing a bed in a care home reduced their yearly cost by more than half.
