Welcome to Ashgrove Care Home
Situated in Newry, County Down, we're a specialist dementia nursing home providing 24-hour care.
We have three private courtyards available to residents. Our spacious corridors are object-rich and colour coded, to help residents find their bearings, with welcoming alcoves for rest stops.
We have two secure locked units that are safe for people while keeping them independent. Residents and their families love the use of our big, beach-themed conservatory.
Residents enjoy their privacy with single rooms, some of which have their own en-suite.
Life at Ashgrove Care Home
Our specialist activity room for residents and activities coordinator enable us to make sure there's always something going on. Every day we have pastimes, diversions and entertainment including movies, massage, games, hand craft and cooking.
Many residents like spending time in our stimulating sensory room.
We also take residents out for shopping, for tea, and to local farms and other places of interest, and hold summer barbeques.
I feel at home when I visit my mother and feel confident that she is being well looked after, I wouldn't want her to be anywhere else.
The manager will always spend time taking to you and will help you with any problems you have. I would recommend the home to anyone
Excellent communications on progress and condition. The staff are very friendly and my mum is content.
I can walk in to the Home and feel comfortable. Everybody is always so friendly. It just feels like going to my mums house and I don't worry about going home.
The food is very good and if there is nothing on the menu I like an alternative is always offered. There are snacks and drinks available whenever I want one.
I am always informed of any changes to my mothers care or condition. Its gives me great peace of mind to know she is well cared for
The number and variety of activities provided by the home is excellent.
I don't know how to thank you all enough for the wonderful way in which you cared for my Dad. You made him feel special and loved. You made him happy.

As delayed transfers of care remain at record highs, how can we reduce unnecessary hospital stays for older people? That was the key question at an HSJ event held in association with Four Seasons Health Care.
The roundtable heard that the healthcare system often finds reasons not to deal with care home residents and looked at the success of an innovative collaboration between the NHS and care homes in Belfast.
With a collaborative approach between care homes and the NHS, older people are able to leave hospital and receive expert care, whilst assessing whether their long term future would be in their current home or a local care home. “The idea is that it would provide short term rehabilitation in conjunction with the two trusts in that area. The joint partnerships with the trusts I’ve worked with have just been amazing, and that’s what makes it work”, explained Janice Brown, Four Seasons’ regional manager for the Belfast and Newtownabbey area.
In addition to the improvements from a collaborative solution, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust reported that the joint partnership approach of providing a bed in a care home reduced their yearly cost by more than half.

Not everyone can say, not only are they the same age as the Queen, but that they share the same birthday as her as well.
In Ashgrove Care Home in Newry, have their very own Queen Lizzie.
Bijini John, Home Manager, said: “Everyone at Ashgrove Care Home helped Lizzie celebrate her 90th birthday in style. We held a tea party, and had a very refined affair. We did raise a glass to her Majesty the Queen to commemorate her 90th year too. Happy birthday Lizzie, I’m glad we could share this special day with you.”
