Our charming home has two spacious lounges leading out onto a lovely secluded garden and many residents enjoy relaxing on the patio or taking a stroll on a sunny day.

At Beechill Care Home, residents are considered part of the family. People embark on a career path because it’s something they love, they yearn to develop, grow and blossom in their profession.

Here at Four Seasons Health Care, Care Assistants can up-skill themselves on the organisations Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAP) Programme.

On Thursday 20th December 2017, a graduation ceremony was held at Shawcross Social Club in Wigan, celebrating the achievements of 47 newly qualified CHAPs.

Rachael Junge, Managing Director for Four Seasons in the North West of England, said: “Here at Four Seasons Health Care we take great pride in our CHAP Programme, and everyone who undertakes the intense 12 week course. I want to congratulate all of the CHAPs for graduating; your hard work and dedication have paid off. These are the first CHAPs in my area, and I’m absolutely delighted at all of your achievements.

“The Programme is innovative and helps the CHAPs to provide invaluable support to the nurses in the homes.

“All the CHAPs have come through this long journey and I want to thank you for your commitment. I also want to thank the Nurse mentors who have guided and supported the CHAPs every step of the way. Well done everyone!”

The newly qualified CHAPs are now able to provide some general nursing duties such as medication rounds. This benefits the home as it enables the nurse to deal with more complex issues.

FSHC-TJ-Award-Success-Dec-2017

Four Seasons Health Care picked up three accolades on Tuesday 5th December 2017 at the Training Journal (TJ) Awards. Winning three categories meant that Four Seasons Health Care led the way, as they were the only organisation to win in multiple categories.

Who were the winners?

The Dementia Care Framework won the ‘Best Change Management Programme’, which is a fantastic achievement and further highlights the positive impact this is having on the lives of people living in Four Seasons homes with dementia.

The Judges commented: “We recognise Four Health Care work in the field of dementia care as innovative and thorough in its approach, being both effective and transformative. It had a bold vision that was well executed in a challenging environment.”

The Care Home Nursing Journal (CNJ), Four Seasons’ very own internal publication to develop nurse knowledge and share best practice won its category of ‘Best Organisational Development Programme'.

The Judges commented: “The design of this intervention, which on the surface appears very simple, completely meets the needs of the organisation and has had significant impact. A particular strength was that Four Seasons Health Care decided to make these resources freely available to anyone, making the impact even greater and is improving healthcare outcomes in care homes everywhere.”

Finally, Louise Morris the Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAP) Lead won the main award of the night and was crowned the ‘Learning and Development Professional of the Year’.

The Judges stated: “Louise has had a transformational impact, not only on the learning and development of staff at Four Seasons Health Care, but also on the well-being of residents. Through a review of an existing programme, Louise drove design and improvement which has had significant benefits through improved care, staff practice and confidence and commitment to their work and professional development.”

FSHC-Care-Awards-2016-RM-of-Year

We’ll be launching the 2017 Four Seasons Care Awards in the summer. In the meantime, we thought it would be nice to catch up with some of the winners of last year’s awards, to see what it’s been like since they’ve gone back to the floor.

This week we’ll be focusing on Lorraine Kirkpatrick, Regional Manager for Belfast who won the Regional Manager accolade.

Lorraine is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to helping people with mental health issues. Her passion for helping people stemmed from having a family member who suffered from Schizophrenia.

“All I ever wanted was for him to have a better life,” Lorraine told us. “I strongly believe that people with mental illnesses should be encouraged and enabled to live as full lives as possible. I want to do my utmost to help as many people as I can do this.”

Everyone in Northern Ireland celebrated when Lorraine won the prestigious accolade. Lorraine herself was very happy, not only for herself but for all of the teams that she works with. “It was a little bit of recognition for the teams continued respectfulness, being caring and trusting nature which ultimately makes a difference to the people in our care. Which is something I strive to do,” said Lorraine

Since winning the award, Lorraine has been busy developing Four Seasons Mental Health Framework. She’s also visited the Regional Team and homes based in the North East of England sharing best practice and assisting them with regards to the setting up and running of specialised units.

Lorraine added: “I’m not one for the limelight, so being able to go back to work and continue to help my teams and other Four Seasons colleagues to continue to make a difference to the lives of the people we care for is something that makes me very proud to work for this company.”
