Care Home ManagerView bio
Care Home Manager
Jo has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for over 20 years. In this time, she has worked in a variety of roles including proving much needed support for adults with learning disabilities and those living with dementia. Jo discovered her passion for working in care homes when she was in the position of looking for a suitable home for her Mum.
Why did you decide to join Four Seasons Health Care?
I was really impressed by the autonomy of running the home the way the residents want it to be run. I was also attracted by the support which Four Seasons offers. We really are a family from the very top, to the very bottom and we all feel part of something special.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the residents and their families! Having been in their position, I have empathy for how they feel trusting us with their loved ones. I enjoy being able to be part of the Hopes Green family through good times and bad. My biggest thrill is seeing the smile on my residents’ faces. It’s also fantastic working with my team, to look after our residents and make them feel part of our warm and friendly family. I enjoy making positive changes that benefit everyone in the home and their families and friends.
What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
Liverpool Football Club is my hobby! I love football and watching grass roots football at the weekends as well as going to Anfield.
Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
I was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for the work I did whilst working for the Red Cross.
I also worked during the London Bombings and opened the survivor centre at Kings Cross. Meeting families and survivors was a very humbling experience.
What do you feel is your biggest achievement outside of your career?
My greatest achievement outside of my career has got to be my son. He is 23 and just qualified after 5 years at University as a Physician Associate and is looking to specialise in Paediatric A&E. He is my best friend and we travel far and wide together to watch the football.
What are your Qualifications?
I was a Branch Manager for a Supported Living company for adults with Learning Disabilities, which meant I was responsible for 6 homes, a complex of 14 flats and outreach projects. I was then head hunted by a charity and went on to be the Chief Executive Officer for Crossroads Care set up to support unpaid family carers. By this time, I was a carer for my mum who had Dementia, which allowed me to understand their point of view. Towards the end of her life, my Mum was supposed to go into a nursing home. My search to find the right home for my Mum is what motivated me to manage Hopes Green.
Currently, I am completing 3 diplomas in Dementia Care Practice, End of Life Care and Mental Health.
What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
Visit the home without calling in advance and talk to everyone you meet. If it is a good home, the team will be pleased to see you and help with any enquiries. I know my team are extremely welcoming to all that visit our home.
