Finlay Milner
Care Home Manager
Finlay has worked for Four Seasons Health Care for the past 11 years, working in various roles within the company such as Care Assistant, Senior Care Assistant and Deputy Manager, before joining Stobhill Care Home in 2020 as Home Manager.
Why did you decide to join Four Seasons Health Care?
I started with Four Seasons in 2009 as a Care Assistant, immediately I knew I had found my passion and it was elderly care. Very quickly, I became motivated and began my career process from Care Assistant to where I am today as Home Manager. Four Seasons have been very supporting and nurturing throughout my time.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy supporting my team to help them reach their full potential. I strongly believe in nurturing and empowering all staff members. This involves giving them roles and responsibilities that best reflect them, as well as helping to develop their existing skills and passions to further strengthen our team. Elderly care has been a passion of mine since my career began, I am constantly fascinated by our residents, their stories and the lives they have lived. I continue to look for new ways we can help support them, ensuring they can still do all the things they love and enjoy their time at Stobhill.
What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
I am a big lover of music and have a passion for collecting vinyl records especially with history attached.
Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
In 2015, I was very honoured to receive the award for Deputy Home Manager of the Year for FSHC. This was during my first role as a Deputy Home Manager and after taking the big leap from working as a Senior Care Assistant for the company to this, it definitely made all the dedication and hard work worthwhile.
What are your Qualifications?
These include a SCQF Level 9 in Social Services and Healthcare.
What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
I would advise them to trust their gut instinct and consider how they feel when they first enter the home and look around. Although the physical environment is important, the people are what really makes a home; Chatting to team members and meeting the residents will help give you a much better feel of the home.
