Welcome to Hartwell Residential Home
You'll find Hartwell Care Home in the village of Ecclesfield, near Sheffield. Here we provide, a high standard of care 24 hours a day.
The people who live here have varying needs, from specialist support and help with everyday living to just needing a helping hand to retain some independence.
We offer residential care as well as respite care to give home carers a much needed break. Some stay with us permanently, others for short periods.
Our attractive specially converted home enjoys a peaceful position close to scenic countryside. Our extensive mature gardens boast flower beds and a summer house where residents enjoy beautiful views across the surrounding South Yorkshire countryside.
People living here can pursue their hobbies in communal and quiet lounges throughout the home. We also have a large and bright conservatory which opens out onto the gardens.
These areas are used for relaxing and socialising, and are great places to invite friends and families to when they visit.
We also support local charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Sunny Days Children's fund.
Life at Hartwell Residential Home
Residents get very involved with our activities coordinator to plan our programme of events. This includes arts and crafts, baking and gentle gardening, as well as quizzes and musical goings-on.
We encourage a mix of individual and group activities, and host regular seasonal events. Our summer garden party is always popular. Some of the people who live here were regional winners in 2014's Four Seasons gardening competition.
We use our shared minibus for outings to local attractions, garden centres, and the theatre. We also provide a regular church service which is open to all residents and their families.
Professional entertainers visit regularly, and we're also treated to performances by local school children and the wider community.
Mealtimes are an enjoyable and sociable part of the day. Each dining area has tables laid with fresh flowers and linen, and our menus are displayed to show the choices available. Snacks, fresh fruit and refreshments are provided 24 hours a day.
We have highly nutritious and varied menus, and cater for all dietary and cultural needs. All food is prepared using fresh ingredients every day in our kitchens. Depending on how they feel, each resident can choose to have their meals in their own room, or in our dining room.
We encourage friends and family to join us for meals or afternoon tea any time, and enjoy catering for residents' birthdays and anniversaries.
My nana was cared for by the staff at Hartwell for just over 5 years until she passed away very recently. The staff there are outstanding in their approach of the care of the elderly. They are: professional, dedicated but most of all very kind. She was always treated with dignity and respect despite not being the easiest of residents at times. The staff, including management are both supportive and approachable. My nana could not have had a better 'home'.

As delayed transfers of care remain at record highs, how can we reduce unnecessary hospital stays for older people? That was the key question at an HSJ event held in association with Four Seasons Health Care.
The roundtable heard that the healthcare system often finds reasons not to deal with care home residents and looked at the success of an innovative collaboration between the NHS and care homes in Belfast.
With a collaborative approach between care homes and the NHS, older people are able to leave hospital and receive expert care, whilst assessing whether their long term future would be in their current home or a local care home. “The idea is that it would provide short term rehabilitation in conjunction with the two trusts in that area. The joint partnerships with the trusts I’ve worked with have just been amazing, and that’s what makes it work”, explained Janice Brown, Four Seasons’ regional manager for the Belfast and Newtownabbey area.
In addition to the improvements from a collaborative solution, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust reported that the joint partnership approach of providing a bed in a care home reduced their yearly cost by more than half.
