A poem from Howdon - During the war

Below is a poem written by everyone at Howdon Care Centre in Wallsend to celebrate World Poetry Day.

During the War

During the war
times were hard
We had lots of fun
No shoes for our feet
But how we could run

The bombs would pass us by
And in the rubble we’d play
With not a care in the world
In the sun we would lay

The winters were cold
The fires would blaze
We’d bath in front of the fire
Oh yes, those were the days

The memories I have are fond
They’ll last 3 score and more
And when my time has come
I'll smile through heaven’s door
