Earlier this year Her Majesty the Queen celebrated turning 90.
Here at Four Seasons Healthcare we wanted to put a spotlight on our lovely residents who were also celebrating their 90th year, giving them the opportunity to share their stories with us.
Joan Edmonds, a resident at Bebington Care Home in Bebington shared what life has been like for her since the Queen has been on the throne.
“Like Her Majesty, I went into the services to help King and Country. I initially wanted to train to be a nurse, but when I went to the army they told me there were no more nurse vacancies, but there was another job I could do if I was interested, a Radar Mechanic. I had no idea what a radar was, but I soon knew all there was about them,” explained Joan.
“A lot of things have changed over the years, especially since the Queen has been on the throne. I can remember ration books for food and clothing which we used during the war. Also the boom in the car trade has seen our roads become busier and busier, not like the good old days when hardly anything used the road. Plus you also knew whenever anyone had any visitors because that would be the house with cars parked outside. Not like nowadays.”
Joan married her sweetheart Cliff in 1943 and they went on to have three beautiful children. They enjoyed holidaying in Wales in a caravan.
