As soon as Alice walked through the front doors at Charnwood Care Home in Carlton, residents and the team knew it would be an upside down sort of day.
Alice, the Mad Hatter and other characters from the novel came and celebrated Care Home Open Day with residents, relatives, visitors and the team.
Chris Harpham, Home Manager, said: “We invited everyone from the local community into our home on 17th June. This included the Mayor and Mayoress of Nottingham. Everyone had a lovely time, and it gave the residents a chance to share their stories with people who they wouldn’t normally see in our home.
“Everyone liked our Alice in Wonderland theme; although we were all waiting for the Queen of Hearts to shout ‘off with their heads!’ I can’t wait to share our next themed day with the community.”
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities. Events like the one at Charnwood Care Home will help to create lasting links between the residents and their local community.
Care Home Open Day is all about showing people what care homes are really about and how they can be at the centre of the local community, developing relationships across the generations.
