Residents at Galgorm Care Home in Ballymena have been bridging the gap between the generations as part of the ‘Linking Generations’ project.
Linking Generations makes connections between people of different ages. It involves young people, older people and all of the ages in between. Some of the charity's projects have helped older people to connect with the digital world. Other projects have included arts and crafts, storytelling and community clean-ups
Lisa McDonald, Home Manager at Galgorm Care Home, said: “The residents here were visited on a weekly basis by students from Ballymena Academy, a local grammar school. The students helped our residents create a variety of artwork which is now proudly displayed in our foyer.
“The students also found that they had a lot in common with the residents. Especially as some of them went to the same school. They all swapped stories about what it was like in the ‘olden days’ compared to now. It’s safe to say that some new friendships have been formed which have had a positive impacts on residents and students alike.”
