There isn’t anything better in life than true love and a home grown tomato

Sheila Stones, a resident at Hallgarth Care Home in Durham has found her green fingers and made growing veg a new hobby of hers.

For the last three months, Sheila has been on watering duty every morning for our tomato plant,” explains Home Manager, Angela Muir. “The tomatoes started to arrive a month ago and have been observed by our Hallgarth family ever since.

“The tomatoes spend the morning listening to Radio 2, as well as spending time with our poetry club. We’d all given up hope of them ever turning red, but not Sheila, and her perseverance paid off with lots of our tomatoes turning red at the same time.

Then we hit another problem…Sheila isn’t keen on tomatoes. So next year she’s putting her green fingers and faith into growing strawberries instead.”

Thought for the day…

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
