Amethyst House Care Home in Doncaster is helping to raise awareness of the Doncaster Cancer Support Group founded by a local lady who sadly lost her life to the disease.

Marie Caygill, founder of the Drop in Centre was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, which spread to her lungs in 2015. Marie sadly passed away on 26th January 2016 aged 47. Marie came across many difficulties with her diagnosis these emotional, financial and of course physical difficulties. She struggled to find the right help and support that was available, despite being very ill, she battled to find the help she and her family so desperately needed.

Marie’s wish was that other cancer patients didn’t have to fight for what was out there, so that is where her vision became a reality. She set up the Drop in Centre at Rossington Holmescarr Centre. She brought together the local organisations and charities under one roof so people like herself could get all the help they needed in a “one stop shop” which is held at the Centre once a month.

The Drop in Centre holds regular monthly meetings where members of the different organisations attend and talk about what they can offer to help the individuals, family and friends. It provides a warm and welcoming environment with refreshments and cake and always a smiling face. Everyone is encourage to come along and get easy access to the help and support that is available to you.
