How well I remember the cottage on the hill - a poem by M Kidd

This poem was written by Muriel Kidd a resident at Courtenay House Care Home in Kings Lynn

How well I can remember the cottage on the hill

How well I can remember the cottage on the hill
Where childhood holidays were spent, those thoughts are with me still

The bright red roses 'round the door, the apples on the tree
Which Gran would pick so carefully to make a pie for tea

Offt' I would sit a while and think on the swing that Grandpa made
He would push me very high, those memories never fade

The blazing fire in the hearth, the smell of home baked bread
And Granny's good night kisses as she tucked me into bed

Alas the years did role on by, the cottage long since gone
Now I can share these memories with children of my own
