There’s been fun all round at Howdon Care Centre in Wallsend over the past week as they celebrated Dignity through Action day, Chinese New Year and Shrove Tuesday. The team have been extremely busy arranging various activities for residents and family members to get involved in.
To celebrate Dignity through Action Day (Feb 1st), the team decided it would be a good idea to create a canvas which contains thoughts about dignity and what it meant to different people. Residents, relatives and visitors all got involved to share their opinion on dignity. There was also a buffet throughout the day which everyone tucked into.
As part of Chinese New Year, everyone enjoyed entertainment provided by a Chinese Dragon magician who wowed the audience with tricks and mystical illusions. To get everyone in the spirit, the catering team put together a traditional Chinese meal with prawn crackers and fortune cookies for everyone to enjoy.
Of course not missing out on the fun of Pancake Day, Howdon enjoyed a pancake picnic in which residents could choose and prepare their own fillings to go in their pancakes. Some strange combinations were made but everyone was full up to the brim with pancakes by the end of the day.
Ruth Todd, Home Manager, told us “We’ve had a wonderful week here at Howdon and the fun doesn’t stop here as we have loads of other events coming up!”
