The theme for Care Home Open Day this year focuses on celebration and the Queen’s 90th birthday. Here at Four Seasons Health Care we thought it would be nice to share some of our resident’s stories who are also celebrating their 90th year!
Ty Eirin presents Ivy James
Ivy will celebrate her 90th birthday in September this year.
Originally from Nantymoel, Ivy really enjoyed school as a child. However, 11 days before she was due to take her exams, Ivy contracted Diphtheria. She missed her exams, and Ivy believes this changed the course of her life.
Ivy’s first job was in a newsagent, working 8am till 8pm earning 14 shillings and 10 pence per week, not forgetting the tuppence insurance. She married the love of her life David when she was 18 and went on to have 2 children.
Ivy wouldn’t want to swap places with the Queen because she doesn’t like a fuss. The biggest change has been the celebration of the Freedom of Britain with the Battle of Britain.
Now a resident at Ty Eirin, Ivy enjoys knitting but doesn’t like cooking.
