The theme for Care Home Open Day this year focuses on celebration and the Queen’s 90th birthday. Here at Four Seasons Health Care we thought it would be nice to share some of our resident’s stories who are also celebrating their 90th year!
Cardonald presents Lammigje McKinney
Lammigje aka Lammie celebrated turning 90 in January.
Born in Steenwijk, Holland, Lammie was one of 5 children brought up in Hilversum, Holland.
She likens herself to the Queen as she married a ‘foreigner’. In 1945, whilst on a trip to Rotterdam with friends, Lammie met future husband Eric – a Scotsman in the Royal Navy. They married in Holland in 1946 before moving to Glasgow and going on to have 4 children. A life that seemingly mirror Her Royal Highness.
Lammie says the changes since the Queen came to the throne have been phenomenal. Advancements in technology – colour TV, mobile phones, microwaves – moon landings, Forth and Tay Road Bridges, Clyde Tunnel, Motorways and so much more are some of the changes that immediately spring to mind.
Lammie laughs a lot and looks back on her life fondly, because of this she wouldn’t want to change places with the Queen.
Now a resident at Cardonald, Lammie enjoys spending her days relaxing and joining in with the activities held in the home.
