There was a little bit of friendly competition at Marlborough Court Care Home in Thamesmead, as part of their Care Home Open Day celebrations.
Hayley Mercer, Personal Activities Leader, said: “We welcomed two local schools into the home, and they challenged our residents to a bag and t-shirt designing competition. Some of the designs were fantastic! Once they were dry everyone enjoyed modelling their designs on our make shift catwalk.
“After the children left, we welcomed Saxophonist Michael Lack into our dementia unit, and he entertained the residents with a few beautiful hits.
“To round the day off we had a lovely BBQ, and I want to thank Tony, our chef for cooking the food inside after a quick down pour put a dampener on our original plans.”
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities. Events like the one at Marlborough Court Care Home will help to create lasting links between the residents and their local community.
Care Home Open Day is all about showing people what care homes are really about and how they can be at the centre of the local community, developing relationships across the generations.
