New residents won’t feel henpecked at Ringshill

Ringshill Care Home in Huntingdon weren’t satisfied with just having chocolate eggs this Easter. The home welcomed four new feathered friends at the end of March.

Katie Wilkinson, Home Manager explained: “We saw an advert regarding the re-homing of some hens. We spoke to the residents about it, and we all thought it would be a good idea to make Ringshill their forever home.

“The hens came from a battery farm, so at the moment are slightly worse for wear, as they used to peck at each other because there was so little room. Hopefully they’ll enjoy having a new environment to live in, with plenty of space and free reign of the courtyard, their feathers will start to grow again.”

Once the hens are settled, wonder if the residents will start singing a chorus of ‘chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me’.

It’s not every day you read about a care home with chickens, but now Ringshill need your help. They’re looking for names for the new residents. Send your suggestions to Rinsgshill@fshc.co.uk
