Geoff Kelly crowned Regional Support Team Member of the Year

Geoff Kelly, Chef Manager at Lisburn Care Home in Lisburn has been crowned the Regional Support Team Member of the Year for Northern Ireland in the Four Seasons Health Care Awards 2016 and is through to the national finals.

These are the 1st Four Season’s Care Awards and this Year over 700 people were nominated for awards by care home residents, colleagues and visitors. All entries have been of a very high standard making the judging process a difficult one. However, a winner had to be chosen and the nomination for Geoff demonstrated how he continues to make a difference and provide special resident experiences on a daily basis.

During the judging process for the Support Team Member of the Year award, the panel was looking at a number of different factors including demonstrating a high level of support to colleagues, residents and families through their everyday tasks, alongside their commitment to development and their attitude to Making a Difference.

Geoff was nominated by a colleague. His nomination read: “Geoff has been the Chef Manager in Lisburn Care home for the past 23 years. Although employed in that role for that length of time he never loses his motivation and enthusiasm for providing wholesome nutritious well-presented food to the residents. He receives many comments from residents, relatives and visiting managers from other home on his food. He’s friendly and very motivational to his team having only had 2 occasions where he’s been off sick in 23 years. Everyone respects and admires him and we all agree he is a worthy winner of this award.

As the winner for Northern Ireland, Geoff is automatically through to the national Four Season’s Care Awards finals. He will meet a panel of judges in for the last round of judging and will then join finalists from across the UK in Birmingham for a special event to celebrate their achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

Lorraine Thompson, Regional Manager for Four Seasons Health Care Lisburn and South East, said: “Geoff is friendly, approachable and always willing to help with anything in the home. He assists with the development of the team both within Lisburn and others further afield. His attention to detail is exceptional and he is a real asset to Lisburn Care Home. Well done Geoff!”

Carol Cousins, Managing Director for Four Seasons Health Care in Northern Ireland, said: “Geoff’s priorities are to manage the everyday cooking and serving the residents’ favourite foods in Lisburn Care Home. That truly makes a difference not only to the residents but to their relatives and other visitors too. He’s not always chained to the cooker, Geoff takes the time to sit and speak to residents and relatives displaying empathy and sensitivity. Personally, I’ve never seen Geoff without his warm smile greeting me, so I’d like to be among the first to congratulate him on his award.”

The Care Awards were open to employees from all Four Seasons homes across the UK and central team members to celebrate their commitment in the delivery of high-quality services to approximately 14,000 residents cared for in more than 300 locations.

The 14 categories have been created to recognise excellence in a variety of roles across the organisation ranging from ‘Carer/Support Worker of the Year’ to ‘Personal Activities Lead Champion’. We also wanted to recognise the hard the dedication and commitment from our residents, their relatives and volunteers.

Tim Hammond, CEO of Four Seasons Health Care said: “The award categories are all really important as we want to highlight the fantastic people we have working here in our organization. However, I believe it is important to acknowledge the special people who go above and beyond to help others in the community, and this is why our ‘Resident or Relative Contribution’ and ‘Volunteer of the Year’ awards are so important to us.

“I look forward to seeing all of our Regional winners at the National Finals in December.”
