The Proclaimers famously sang that they would walk 500 miles, but the team, relatives and a few residents from Pellon Care Centre in Halifax did one better.
They did a sponsored cycle and walk which was the same distance as walking from Land’s End to John O’Groats. A staggering 837 miles!
Laura Clegg, Home Manager, said: “Everyone got really involved in this event. There was lots of cheering and support around, and you really felt the love when it was your turn to take on the challenge.”
Whilst some members in the home were getting the exercise bug, others in a different unit were enjoying an afternoon of baking.
Laura Clegg, added: “The residents at Brackenbed View baked lots of delicious treats. You could smell the goodies baking whilst you were taking part in the sponsored walk/cycle. It was like a form of torture, but you got through it. The residents enjoyed their cakes with a cup of coffee and a relaxing film.”
The money raised during the sponsored cycle/walk will be used to provide special experiences for residents.
