Residents and families at Marlborough Court Care Home in Thamesmead got stuck into an arts and crafts session as a way to raise awareness of dementia.
Hayley Mercer, Personal Activities Leader, said: “Last week marked Dementia Awareness Week, and here at Marlborough Court we wanted to do a number of activities to raise awareness of the disease that many of our residents suffer from on a daily basis.
“One of the activities we did was an arts and crafts session. The residents in the dementia unit created their own art exhibition. They decorated their own handprints in a way that represented their individual personalities. These pieces of art have now taken pride of place on the dementia unit, and the residents enjoy showing them off to their families.”
Marlborough Court rounded off Dementia Awareness Week by holding a very sophisticated tea party, chatted about dementia and the impact it has on people’s lives.
Hayley Mercer added: “A lovely day was had by all, and as long as we have educated at least one person about dementia then the week is a success.”
