In Pontefract, Hemsworth Park Care Home’s Open Day embraced a Superhero theme, as the home welcomed Bat Girl, Captain America and two Super Girls on Friday 17th June.
Joy Allen, Home Manager, said: “The residents have told us that the team are superheroes in their eyes, so we wanted to have a slight twist to our open day.
“We celebrated our ‘Super Staff’ with Recognition of Care and Kindness (ROCK) Awards, Long Service Awards and of course a party befitting even Tony Stark (Iron Man) himself.”
The home welcomed a number of visitors, who also wanted to celebrate the super team’s achievements. Representatives from the local council, Healthwatch Wakefield and Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) all came together to marvel at the team’s achievements.
Joy Allen added, “Everyone had a lovely time. It was nice for us here at Hemsworth to show people that just because we’re a care home, we can still have fun.”
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities. Events like the one at Hemsworth Park Care Home will help to create lasting links between the residents and their local community.
Care Home Open Day is all about showing people what care homes are really about and how they can be at the centre of the local community, developing relationships across the generations.
