Ken McClen, a resident at Wansbeck Care Home in Choppington is a huge Sunderland FC supported, and has followed the club since he was a child.
Ken now resides at the Choppington based home, and shared his wish with the care team after not going to a match in a long time.
Denise Hyland, Home Manager, said: “Here at Wansbeck we like to make dreams come true so we contacted the Stadium of Light to see if there was anything that could be done for Ken. It was arranged for Ken to go to the next home game.”
Ken told us: “It was great seeing my beloved Black Cats again. It was nice being able to soak up the atmosphere at the stadium. I want to thank everyone who helped make my wish come true.”
Ken’s dream was discovered by the care team as part of their Dementia Care Framework training. It emphasises the individualised approach to care, and the importance of getting to know each resident on a personal level.
