Years of experience at Hesslewood House helps provide special experiences for residents

When people think of care homes, they usually think of dull and boring places where not much happens.

At Hesslewood House Care Home in Hessle this is not the case.

Michelle Pepworth, Care Home Home Manager, explains: “Here at Hesslewood House we care for all of our residents, and understand that the last thing they want is to sit around bored doing nothing. So here we have a very active activities calendar, which provides the residents with special resident experiences on a regular basis.

“However, we don’t just help our residents. We like to be hands on in the local community and help local charities where we can. The residents and team here are all very passionate and like to get involved in local fundraising activities.”

Below is a sample of some of the activities Hesslewood House Care Home have been getting involved in since the start of the year.

On World Chocolate Day the White Rabbit Chocolate shop come in from Beverley. They gave the residents the history of chocolate and gave them all little tasters. The chocolate went down a treat and the residents, their relatives and the team all bought a number of little chocolatey gifts.

On the 26th February there was a Bake Off style event at the home. The aim was to raise as much money as possible nfor the charity ‘Cash for Kids’ to help disadvantaged children. The event was a success and a substantial amount of money was raised for the charity.

On the 1st of May the staff and resident wore red lipstick to raise awareness of Dementia raising just short of £50 for the cause.

Michelle Pepworth added: “Hesslewood House would be nothing without the team driving it forward. That’s why I think it’s important to recognise everyone who’s been here for a long period of time, consistently helping us to deliver more and more. We will continue to deliver special experiences for everyone.“

Recently, the home hosted an event which saw 11 team members commended for their long service. The team have a vast amount of experience between them, with the longest serving member working for the organisation for 28 years!
