We’ll be launching the 2017 Four Seasons Care Awards in the summer. In the meantime, we thought it would be nice to catch up with some of the winners of last year’s awards, to see what it’s been like since they’ve gone back to the floor.
This week we’ll be focusing on Mauro Magbitang from Bangor Care Home in Bangor, who won the Specialist Services Champion award.
Mauro was commended for championing a diverse range of services after he created a specialist service in Holywood Care Home.
Mauro told us: “I felt humbled and honoured that the hard work and dedication of the team at Holywood had been recognised. I couldn’t have developed the service without them, and this award isn’t just for me it’s for them. The award was a boost to moral and has helped the team at Holywood continue to go from strength to strength.”
Not only was Mauro humbled on the night, but when he returned to Belfast his team had surprised him with a welcome home party. Although after the five minutes of fame, Mauro himself admits it was business as usual.
Since winning the award, Mauro has moved to Bangor Care Home where he hopes to replicate the success he had in Holywood and create a specialist service to help create a diverse living space.
“Winning the award has encouraged me to continue to grow the specialist service in Northern Ireland,” added Mauro. “Watch this space!”
