We’ll be launching the 2017 Four Seasons Care Awards in the summer. In the meantime, we thought it would be nice to catch up with some of the winners of last year’s awards, to see what it’s been like since they’ve gone back to the floor.
This week we’ll be focusing on Geoff Kelly, Chef Manager from Lisburn Care Home who won the Support Team Member of the Year award.
Geoff was very humbled when he won the award last year. Even by his own admission he doesn’t believe he does anything special, he just cares about his residents and even refers to Lisburn Care Home as his second home.
This is why when he returned to the home after winning the award he was surprised by the reaction he got. “I had such a great reception from everyone at Lisburn, my family, and residents’ relatives and other Four Seasons colleagues,” explains Geoff. “It made me realise how well I have done and what I’ve achieved. Seeing how happy everyone is, it makes me happy and proud to work for a company that cares so much, not just about the people in their care, but the people that work for them too.”
Geoff’s colleagues have praised him throughout the process for his enthusiasm. He hasn’t lost his bounce since winning the award, if anything it has ramped up. Geoff added: “The award has inspired me to continue working hard on a daily basis to make a difference to people’s lives, I’ve been trying out new ideas for the menu which have gone down fantastically with the residents. I also work hard to motivate my colleagues to do their upmost so we can become the best team the residents at Lisburn Care Home could ask for.”
Seemingly the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Geoff has been busy outside of the walls of Lisburn too. He’s been helping his son with his NVQ Catering Course, something Geoff is very proud of.
