June 21st 2013 saw the UK's care homes take centre stage, uniting for the first time ever to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities. On National Care Home Open Day Cedars Care Home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire opened up their home and held a 1940s Street Party. The staff dressed up in 1940's style costume and everyone enjoyed a 1940's style buffet, with a variety of sandwiches; dripping, jam etc. There was also 1940's music to be enjoyed with 'sing a long' entertainment

On National Care Home Open Day Alexandra Care Home in Newton-le-Willows opened up their home and held a Garden Party with BBQ food and entertainment.
On the 22nd May 2013 staff, residents and family members of St Catherine’s Care Home in Bolton, Lancashire took a trip to The Rivington Barn to watch the Houghton Weavers.The Houghton Weavers are an English folk music band formed in 1975 in Westhoughton, Bolton. The current band members are David Littler, Steve Millington and Tony Berry. All 34 who attended the event had a fantastic evening especially the residents who enjoyed singing along to their old favourites.
Each month at The Parklands Care Home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire a wish will be chosen at random from the tree and that wish will then be made into reality for that resident by the staff. This month, the wish that was picked belonged to Resident Mr Norman Daniels. His wish was for a “nice cold can of beer” and that is just what he got. He was thrilled by this and enjoyed every last mouthful!
