The unique new Quality of Life Programme launched across Four Seasons earlier this year has reached the finals of the UK Customer Experience Awards, the most comprehensive and biggest Customer Experience Awards programme in the UK.

The Quality of Life Programme is a tablet-based customer feedback system which, following the successful trial in 100 homes, is being rolled out to every Four Seasons home by the end of the year. The programme has been recognised at the UK Customer Experience Awards in the ‘Insight and Feedback, a Focus on Understanding’ category.

We are delighted that the achievements the team has made with the Quality of Life Programme have been recognised, and that we are finalists in these prestigious awards. We are up against some tough competition at the awards ceremony which will be held in London on the 20th September. Fellow finalists are Direct Line Group, Virgin Money, Dyno Rod Ltd, and Grass Roots and DFS. We all have our fingers crossed that our fantastic Quality of Life Programme will triumph on the day!

A volunteer at Howdon Care Centre’s café has been praised for her work and nominated for a Commendation Award. Mary Baitey is always helping the home in whatever way she can - she tirelessly volunteers in their dementia café The Tyne Teas Pitstop and visits residents on a regular basis.

Mary was nominated for the Chairman of North Tyneside Council’s Commendation Award by members of the activities team at Howdon Care Centre, Wallsend. The award is designed to recognise people in the area, both young and old, who volunteer their time to help others in the community.

Mary’s late husband, Michael, was a resident at the home which is how she built up such strong relationships with staff and residents to become a volunteer.

Open every day, the Tyne Teas Pitstop provides a comfortable and relaxing environment in which residents and visitors can sit with their loved ones and enjoy tea and light refreshments or learn more about dementia. The café has been decorated to reflect the history of the area to reinforce the home’s connection with the local community and help trigger positive memories.

In addition, the café holds two open days each month to offer advice and support for people from the local community who may be moving into the care home or who simply want to talk to a specialist about dementia.

For the second year running, staff at St Catherine’s Care Home wowed crowds at the annual Horwich Carnival (28th June) and took away Best Float.

The staff took the time out of their own schedules to hand construct the impressive float based on the Disney movie Frozen. Staff and families were able to get involved with the parade by dressing up as their favourite Frozen characters which was enjoyed by both young and old at the carnival.

Gillian Johnson, Home Manager, said “The carnival is always fun and gives us a great opportunity to link with the community. Staff, residents and families all got involved this year so we we're particularly proud of winning best float”.

Fingers crossed their winning streak continues to next year.
