Woodview Care Home in Lincoln recently arranged a week long art exhibition at the home to celebrate the artwork of one of their residents. The team have invited relatives and friends of the home to come and take in the fantastic artwork created by one of their residents. The exhibition opened on 5th September and will run for six days.
Gill Lee, resident at Woodview, is a very keen painter and attends a local art group every week. The team at Woodview have always admired the work of Gill and came up with the idea of an art exhibition to show off how talented she is. With the help of Aquarius Art Group, which Gill attends, the home has been transformed into an art gallery – paintings are up on display all around the home and they are also available to purchase.
Louise Lawson, Home Manager, told us “We always admire the work that Gill produces, she has a real talent and we’re so proud of her. The exhibition is a way to celebrate Gill’s artwork but also to encourage others to give painting a go. So far it has been a real success – we’ve had visitors every day popping in to look at the artwork. Gill has loved every minute of it!”

The team at Woodcot Lodge Care Home in Gosport have recently been competing with one another in friendly games and challenges in the home. The teams were created based on the different units the home has with the residents as judges.
Their most recent competition has been a ‘Come Dine With Me’ themed challenge in which each unit provided meals of the residents’ choice. Each dining room was set up like a restaurant and the residents were waited on by the teams. The residents were then able to judge the meals along with the presentation of the dining room and how professional their waiters and waitresses were. The team that scored highest won a complimentary lunch at Woodcot Lodge to enjoy with the residents.
Vickie Wylde, Home Manager, said “Little challenges like this are a great way to involve the residents in activities. It is designed to be a bit of fun between our units and also make Woodcot a fun place to be. Our middle floor team won the Come Dine With Me competition – there was some lovely interaction between the teams and residents, it was very calm and professional. Everyone did a great job of organising everything and the residents loved it!”

A resident at The Grange Care Home in Darlington recently celebrated her 71st wedding anniversary. The team at The Grange arranged a surprise get together for the happy couple, inviting friends and family members to share the special day with them.
Jean Soderman, a resident at The Grange, met her husband Ernie when they were just 14 and 15 years old, they went on to marry and have enjoyed 71 years of happiness and laughter together ever since. They have three children, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren who were able to share the special occasion with them. The team put together a party for Jean and Ernie with food and refreshments. The couple were treated to a bunch of flowers, a cake and a bottle of champagne for their special day.
Jean and Ernie told us they were overwhelmed by the kindness from the team. They had no idea about the surprise and were so grateful for everything – they loved every minute. They toasted their day in style with a glass of champagne each.
Dolores Pooley, Home Manager, said “It was such a lovely occasion to see celebrated here at The Grange. Jean had kept quiet about the big day but let it slip to a member of the team that it was her anniversary. We decided to surprise them both with a party to celebrate the wonderful day – they didn’t expect a thing, it was lovely to see how surprised and happy they both were”.
Happy 71st Anniversary Ernie and Jean, from all at Four Seasons Health Care.
