Everyone at Havencourt Care Home in Stonehaven all came together to celebrate their newest resident Gwen’s 69th birthday.
Rhona McGregor, Home Manager, said: “Gwen hasn’t been with us very long; however this didn’t mean that we wouldn’t celebrate her birthday in style. We held a lovely tea party, complete with a lovely birthday cake. Another one of our residents initiated a sing along by playing some well-known songs on our piano. Everyone had a lovely day, and it was a pleasure to share Gwen’s special day with her.”

A little recognition can go a long way, yet sometimes modern day life means that people are too busy to take a step back and take stock of their achievements.
In Elswick Hall Care Home in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, they have created a special place which highlights all of the achievements the team have accomplished.
Libby Taws, Home Manager, said: “It’s important that we recognise all of the hard work and dedication the team have under taken to ensure they have all the knowledge and relevant skills to care for our residents. Often we’re all very busy, and forget how far we’ve come. This Achievement Wall will give us the chance to reflect on everything we’ve accomplished. It’s also nice for visitors and our resident’s families to see our competencies, giving them piece of mind that the care of their loved one is at the centre of everything we do.”

Victoria Care Home in St Helens was packed to the rafters last weekend as the home put on its annual summer fair.
Victoria Kelly, Home Manager, explained: “We hold our summer fair roughly this time every year. We welcome everyone from the local community into our home, and this year seemed to be a massive success. We welcome a lot of people through our doors. The residents enjoyed speaking to new faces, telling them their stories and passing on their words of wisdom.
“As with any fair, we had lots of things to do. As a result of the generosity of everyone who came, we raised over £500 for our residents fund. This will help us to fund special experiences for our residents, which will be really nice. I want to thank everyone who came to the event; you helped to make it a success.”
As part of the day, the home released 50 yellow balloons in a balloon race, to see how far they would travel.
Victoria Kelly added, “The balloons had a little message for whoever found them, asking them to let us know where the balloon had landed. We’ve received our first response all of the way from West Yorkshire! It’ll be interesting to see where the other 49 have got to.”
