Residents at Pellon Care Centre in Halifax are taking part in a research programme with students from Bradford University, based on monitoring activity in older people.

Home Manager, Laura Clegg, explains: “The university students came in and explained to the residents what their project was about. 10 of our residents wanted to get involved and have been doing a number of activities, such as indoor bowling, and keeping a diary for the students to use and analyse. I look forward to seeing the results of this project. I know the residents are very keen to help in any way they can.”

The Lodge Care Home in Killamarsh went all out to celebrate the Queen’s birthday, holding an event which the residents are still talking about today.

The celebrations started with local singer Stevie Moore coming to entertain the residents. His music set got everyone up on their feet, and they all had a ball.

One resident at The Lodge, shared his story about meeting the Queen when he was awarded an MBE for his dedication and commitment to amateur dramatics. Watch out for more information on this at a later date.

In pride of place in the lounge at Willoughby Grange Care Home in Boston, a royal throne complete with a crown and their very own (toy) corgi sat, awaiting the arrival of their Royal Highness.

“The throne was just one of the things we used to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday,” explained Home Manager Yvonne Fairbrother. “All of the residents, and the team enjoyed striking a royal pose to commemorate the special day. One of our residents was a former Mayor of Boston and looked at home on the royal throne.

“Our celebration lasted for two whole days with a local entertainer providing music for the residents to sing along to. A great time was had by all and I hope Her Majesty had just as much fun as we did.

The unpredictable weather threatened to strike again at Woodview Care Home in Lincoln.

Home Manager, Louise Lawler told us: “In Lincoln we’ve had a very peculiar week of weather. The weekend saw us hit by snow, which had the potential to alter some of our activity plans.

“Thankfully, the sun put his hat on and came out to play, later in the week. This meant we didn’t have to cancel any of our plans and were able to take the residents out to Pottergate Golf Course. The residents had a fabulous time basking in the glorious sunshine and taking in the picturesque scenes around the course. Some even had the chance to have a swing or two.

“We are looking forward to more of this beautiful weather and taking the residents out on more trips.”

The Mayor made a special guest appearance the The Elms Care Home in Louth and joined residents in celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Once the celebrations were out of the way, and the Mayor had departed, everyone welcome two new additions to the home.

Tina Goodwin, Home Manager, explains: “Last year we won the Four Seasons Gardening Competition and as of yet hadn’t spent our winnings. A group of us went on a trip to the local garden centre and ended up bringing back two heavenly statues. Our maintenance man has christened them Shaz and Trace. These two new additions look stunning in our garden and were definitely a great buy. We’re all looking forward to spending time with them when the weather warms up.”
