Residents have turned green fingered at Doulton Court Care Home in Sutton-on-Sea. The lounge window sill is now home to pots of runner bean seeds waiting to grow.

Joyce Turner, Care Home Home Manager, explains: “The residents wanted to plant something they could eat, and after numerous discussions finally decided on the runner beans. It could be a while yet before the residents see the fruits – or veg – of their labour, but I’m sure once they sprout the residents will be doing all they can to encourage them to grow.”

The residents have also enjoyed a variety of activities including table tennis and sound bingo.

Joyce Turner added: “It’s never a dull moment at Doulton Court. The team here do their upmost to keep our residents happy, and this is reaffirmed by the feedback we receive through our Quality of Life data.”

Sad news to report at Beech Tree House Care Home this week. Four of the residents too part in a bowling competition with other homes in and around the Goole area.

“Sadly our team didn’t make it to the finals, but everyone had fun taking part, which is what counts,” said Home Manager, Margaret Allsop.

To combat their disappointment, the home celebrated the team’s achievements and the Queen’s birthday in style with a party fit for Queen complete with a singer and lots of dancing

Moving into a care home can be a life changing experience. People often wonder if they’ll still have their independence.

Maintaining a person’s independence is definitely the case at Aspen Lodge Care Home in Skegness.

Home Manager, Katrina Morris, explains: “One of our newest residents, who hadn’t seen much of the area, was taken into town by Nina, our Personal Activities Leader (PAL). Nina was the resident’s personal shopper and tour guide all rolled into one. They enjoyed coffee and a cake in a local café, and picked up a few bits and bobs before returning to Aspen Lodge. The resident was beaming when she returned, and showed off her bargain buys to some of the others.”
