Halloween

24 Nov 2016

Four of our homes in South West Yorkshire pulled out all of the stops this Halloween to ensure our residents had a spooktacular time.

The Lodge Care Home in Killamarsh were entertained by spooky singer Stevie Moore, as the residents danced the night away under the full moon.

Residents at Pellon Care Centre in Halifax also enjoyed a spooktacular Halloween with everyone attending their Halloween Ball.

In Mirfield, residents at Woodlands Care Home made their own decorations and cakes before dressing up for a night of singing and dancing – howling at the moon wasn’t allowed.

At Southfield Court Care Home in Huddersfield, residents played Halloween games such as bob apple to mark the day.

It’s safe to say all of our residents enjoyed their spooky activities.

In witchy Wallsend, residents from Howdon Care Centre enjoyed a day of Halloween activity.

Ruth Todd, Home Manager, explained: “Halloween was a non-stop day of activities for us here. The morning saw our residents enjoy a bit of pumpkin carving, in preparation for our party. There were lots of different designs but the best by far was the ‘vomiting’ pumpkin, which was very creative.

Some children from the local community came in and joined in with our party which included some very scary mummified games, Britain’s Got Talent and Animalgique entertained us with lots of different animals. Everyone had a great time.”

It’s never too early to start getting Christmas decorations. Is it?

Residents from Dounemount Care Home in Macduff, took a trip to a local garden centre to get some ideas from the Christmas displays there.

Kay Robertson, Home Manager, said: “The residents really enjoyed themselves and took lots of inspiration from the displays. Once they’d had a look around, and had their picture taken with Father Christmas they went for some lunch to help them decide what decorations they’d get for the home, to make this Christmas extra special. We loved the decoration they brought back to the home and can’t wait to show them off. Watch this space!”

Everyone loves a nice pamper session. Having your hair done is one of the ways many of us like to relax.

So why should it be any different for our residents?

Rachelle Dainton, a resident at Bishopsmead Lodge Care Home in Bristol regularly welcomes her hairdresser Dianne Short into her home.

Rachelle said: “I love having my hair done. It makes me feel nice and fresh, plus it means I can have a good old natter with Dianne.”

Francaise Miles, Home Manager, said: “Just because you live in a care home doesn’t mean life has to stop. We strive to make our care home, a home from home for our residents. We try and do what we can to ensure life can continue as it did before they came to us. Little thing like welcoming Dianne, the hairdresser, has such a positive impact on Rachelle and the other residents; which encourages us to do more of it as we like to have happy residents.”
