Two members of the team at Willow Lodge Care Home in North Shields recently took part in the Great North Run in order to raise funds for the home.

Nikki, Care Assistant, and her sister Gemma, Personal Activities Leader, both ran the half marathon to help raise money for a minibus for the home so they can go on more days out with the residents. After completing the challenge they were both able to get dressed up and celebrate their fantastic achievements.

Lindsay Johnson, Home Manager, told us: "The girls were incredible, they both worked with training as well as their work here at Willow Lodge. They did a fantastic job and raised a great amount of money that will help us in getting a minibus for the home. It's so lovely to have these girls as part of the team - a huge well done to you both!"

Dove Court Care Home in Kettering has had a bit of a revamp in the activities department.

Ann Bavister, Personal Activities Leader, has been very busy building various games to help keep the boredom at bay. She has used her creative mind to make some hand games for residents to enjoy including a giant Kerplunk, hook-a-duck and a matching mitten game.

Ann told us: "As we all know, boredom can cause a lot of negative side effects so I wanted to make sure that is never the case here at Dove Court. The residents love the new games and we've already been putting together new ideas for some more so watch this space".

From snakes to baby chicks, Longfield Care Home in Eglinton had a visit from them all when Kidz Farm stopped by to visit the residents.

It wasn't just the residents who enjoyed some animal therapy as all the staff got involved too. Everyone was queuing up for a cuddle with a fluffy chick or bunny, and for those brave enough, having a hold of a snake or lizard.

Val Porter, Personal Activities Leader, told us: "The animals were amazing - we all learnt a lot of fun facts and figures from their handlers. There were quite a few brave residents who had a go at holding the snakes and lizards - some of the staff however weren't that brave! It was a fantastic afternoon and we hope to see Kidz Farm at Longfield again soon".
