If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure for a big surprise. Residents, relatives and the care team at Copper Beeches Care Home in Rochester enjoyed a lovely teddy bear’s picnic.

Gabriele Jerome, Home Manager, said: “It was a lovely day with young and old alike enjoying the fun and games of the teddy bear picnic. Lovely memories were made and a nice day was had by all.”

Residents from Old Vicarage Care Home in Worksop and students from a nearby school have been bridging the gap between the generations finding out how the golden days compare to the here and now.

The residents enjoyed spending time getting to know the students. To both generations surprise they had quite a bit in common. The music may have changed but some of the fashions have done a full 360 and are enjoyed by both young and old alike. They even enjoyed some board games which brought out lots of fun and laughter at the home.

Sinead Hiley Care Assistant at Pellon Care Centre in Halifax has been awarded a Four Seasons Values Certificate after going above and beyond for a resident in her care.

Monica Thorpe, Home Manager, explained: "Sinead came in on her day off to take a residents shopping for a new outfit in preparation for an upcoming family occasion. In this instance Sinead clearly showed how she makes a difference to the lives of the people in her care. Well done Sinead."

August 2017 saw Four Seasons’ Health Care Lothian Region launch their VIP (Values In Practice) initiative which rewards people for living the Four Seasons values of being:

  • Respectful
  • Trusted
  • Caring
  • and Making a Difference

This month the team member with the most votes was Personal Activities Leader Angela Leake from Gilmerton Care Home in Edinburgh.

Tracey Howell, Home Manager, said: “Since Angela joined the activities team she has made a vast difference to the lives of the residents here at Gilmerton. She shows an unrivalled enthusiasm for her role and her way with people is very moving. She manages to get the balance of activities just right, with lots of social and group activities and very personal one to one sessions using reminiscence and “playlist for life” to engage with residents who find communication difficult. She has a great skill in sourcing lot of free activities and charming people into taking part and donating in one way or another. She just gets it and displays a selfless attitude with residents experience being at the heart of all she does.”

Anne-Marie McKeich, Regional Manager for Lothian, said: “No matter how big or small the action or the gesture is, the VIP Awards are an opportunity to say thank you to people who go above and beyond the call of duty every day to make a difference to our residents’ lives.

“Congratulations Angela, you should be really proud of your success.”

When a resident at Hesslewood House Care Home in Hessle donated a piano, the rest of the residents and the care team were all eager to show off their musicality.

Kate Wilson, Home Manager, said: “The piano has gone down brilliantly. A lot of the residents are really happy to have a quick go on the ivories and showcase their talents. I’d like to thank the resident who donated the piano. You have really made a difference here at Hesslewood House.”
