When Benji bounds through the doors at Botham Hall Care Home in Huddersfield, it’s not hard to see why the residents are excited to see him.
Christina Halonka, Home Manager, said: “Benji is our pet therapy dog, who entertains our residents. Whether it’s a little cuddle or playtime, Benji is ready for anything. Jessie was first in line to cuddle Benji this week, and he duly oblidged.”
When Benji left to go home, the residents welcomed Rick, a local entertainer who got everyone up singing and dancing.
Christina Halonka added: “Variety is the spice of life. We try and do lots of different activities here in Botham to help make special experiences for our residents.”

A Care Assistant who has been at Woodlands Care Home in Mirfield for 5 weeks has been commended for making a difference to the lives of those in his care.
Lynn Hawkins, Regional Manager for South and West Yorkshire, said: “Christopher is a real inspiration to the team here at Woodlands. He has built up a special relationship with one resident who didn’t like to spend time in the communal areas. Christopher is respectful, trusting and caring towards this particular resident and as a result has made a real difference to his day to day life."
Michelle Brooks, Home Manager, said: “Christopher is kind and patient with all of the residents here at the home. He’s only been here 5 weeks and he’s already become a valued member of the team. I don’t know what we’d do without him.”

“We wanted to make the run up to Christmas just as special as the day itself for those in our care,” explained Home Manager Gwen McKenzie.

Gwen McKenzie added: “Santa’s Grotto was a huge hit with the residents and children who came to the party. The Xmas Fete was a great build up to our Christmas Party where we sang and danced the afternoon way. It was a lovely way to celebrate the festive season.”

It was definitely a case of who dares wins, at the Old Vicarage Care Home in Worksop, as the home held its weekly quiz.
Pauline Clews, Home Manager said: “The residents really enjoy quiz time. We had a surprise winner this week which was great to see. Joyce, is the proud weekly winner, and she was extremely shocked as she lives with dementia. She’s told everyone that just because she has dementia shouldn’t stop people doing the things they enjoy.
“This quiz is just one of the ways the team here works hard to make a difference to our resident’s lives on a daily basis. Joyce is looking forward to defending her crown next week.”
