Residents, relatives and the care team at Howdon Care Centre in Wallsend enjoyed trying lots of new things as part of Nutrition and Hydration Week.
Ruth Todd, Home Manager, said: “Everyone got involved making smoothies with fruits from around the world, including super fruits such as blueberries. We also held music and movement sessions using props such as scarves, pompoms and wands, and broke these up with short intervals so we could hydrate with fresh fruit juices and water.
“Everyone enjoys taking part in Nutrition and Hydration week. Not only is it an excuse to try some lovely new things. It also reminds us of the importance of nutrition and hyrdration in our day to day lives.”

The team and residents at St Helen’s Care Home in Bishop Auckland did their bit for a local children’s charity that help children and young people who have disabilities lead a fulfilling life.
Janet McVeigh, Home Manager, said: “This charity holds a special place in our hearts. We regularly raise funds when we can to help do what we can. I’m very proud of everyone here at St Helen’.”

Residents at Hemsworth Park Care Home in Pontefract have enjoyed getting physical, as they’ve taken part in some fitness sessions.
Gene Alan, Home Manager, explained: “A local exercise organisation popped by to do some chair based exercises with our residents and care team. The residents enjoyed the stretching and the ball activities so much they’ve asked for these sessions to become a regular thing.
“It was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

Laurels Lodge Care Home in Woodside held a lovely party to celebrate Bill and Irene’s Silver Wedding Anniversary, congratulating them on 25 years of wedded bliss.
Bill and Irene first met at the Solo Club in 1990. When Bill’s best friend Harry and his wife Jess celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary, Bill asked Irene to accompany him to the celebration, and that’s where loved blossomed. Two years later Bill and Irene got married an then spent their honeymoon at Moness Hotel in Aberfieldie.
Ewa Misztal, Care Assistant at Laurels Lodge, said: “It was very nice seeing both Bill and Irene happy as they celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary, the smiles on their faces say it all.”

There’s nothing more relaxing than partaking in a guilty pleasure. Food, music, films, reading etc. Everyone has a guilty pleasure.
Two residents at Swan House Care Home in Chatteris enjoy a little bit of rock and roll, and indulged in this guilty pleasure recently at the home.
Rachel Bates, Home Manager, said: “We strive to provide special experiences for our residents on a regular basis. Norma and Doug both enjoy rock and roll, so they had an opportunity to rock out in the home complete with inflatable instruments. The two residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and said it made a nice change to the ‘boring’ music that can sometimes be heard in the home.”
