Lavinia Rose from Havencourt Care Home in Stonehaven has been crowned the Regional Senior Nursing Care Assistant (SNCA) of the Year for Scotland, Wales, South West England and Bristolin the Four Seasons Health Care Awards 2017 and is through to the national finals.
This year over 700 people were nominated for awards by care home residents, colleagues and visitors. All entries have been of a very high standard making the judging process a difficult one. However, a winner had to be chosen and the nomination for Lavinia demonstrated how shecontinues to make a difference and provide special resident experiences on a daily basis.
During the judging process for the Regional Senior Nursing Care Assistant of the Year, the panel was looking at a number of different factors including how the overall winner has supported the Registered Nurses in their home to meet a range of clinical needs to enhance their residents’ experiences.
Lavinia’s nomination read: “Lavinia commenced her 12 week Senior Nursing Care Assistant program in January of this year. She had fully completed it by 4th March. She then commenced her SVQ level 3 in May with full completion by September. Lavinia has demonstrated real commitment towards self improvement and has also put herself through a team leader course to better support her care team. On shift Lavinia is very well liked. She takes feedback on board and continues to seek knowledge and know how from the trained members of the team. She always puts the delivery of care at the forefront of discussions and decisions. We are very proud of the commitment and dedication Lavinia has shown this year to better support the home as a whole. Lavinia is always seen at her work with a smile on her face. Her main focus is always the well-being of her residents and when she is on shift, she works well in her team and is professional and approachable.”
As the winner for the Scotland, Wales, South West England and Bristol, Lavinia is automatically through to the national Four Season’s Care Awards finals. She will meet a panel of judges for the last round of judging and will then join finalists from across the UK in Birmingham for a special event to celebrate their achievements and discover if they have won a national award.
Sylvia Nicoll, Regional Manager for Four Seasons Health Care for Grampian, said: “I have known Lavinia since she was first employed with the company as a care assistant and have observed her development into a valued member of the team at Havencourt. Not being a UK resident from birth has made the challenge greater for Lavinia as English was not her first language. Lavinia developed her English language skills along with completing her SVQ. The residents comment on how caring she is and that she is always smiling. Well done Lavinia!”
John Kirk, Managing Director for Four Seasons Health Care in Scotland, Wales, South West England and Bristol, said: “Lavinia is someone who looks at all obstacles and challenges with a smile on her face as she knows it will only be a matter of time before she overcomes them! Her dedication in improving her knowledge and qualifications goes to show that we have a team member who is always looking to learn and develop so that she can lead her team forward with the most up to date best practice and methods. This leads to a team who are well lead and this was recently reflected in the Grades for the home being increased to “Very Good” by the Care Inspectorate. ”
The Care Awards were open to employees from all Four Seasons homes across the UK and central team members to celebrate their commitment in the delivery of high-quality services to all the residents cared for in more than 260 locations.
The 14 categories have been created to recognise excellence in a variety of roles across the organisation ranging from ‘Carer/Support Worker of the Year’ to ‘Personal Activities Lead Champion’. We also wanted to recognise the hard the dedication and commitment from our residents, their relatives and volunteers.
Tim Hammond, CEO of Four Seasons Health Care said: “Our Annual Care Awards are such a special occasion. It is our event where we stop and recognise and celebrate our colleagues who go the extra mile to ensure those living with us have the very best experience.
"The quality of the nominations this year have been outstanding – and I know it has been a difficult process for our Regional Managers and Managing Directors to select our Regional Winners. I congratulate them and look forward to seeing them all at our Annual Care Awards ceremony in February.”
