The sun was shining on Thursday morning, so the residents at Hallgarth Care Home in Durham decided that it was an excellent day to go out shopping.
Once everyone was aboard the minibus, off they went to the local shops, with the first stop being signposted as Marks and Spencer.
Angela Muir, Home Manager, explains: “The residents really enjoyed themselves. Elizabeth wanted to call in the pet shop for some treats for the family dogs. She was thrilled to see a dog just like the one she had in the pet salon getting a trim. All the rabbits and gerbils were a great hit too and she remembered how when the children were little they were always bringing animals home as pets. The house was like a zoo at times. One of the staff at the store talked to us about pets and explained that one of the most intelligent and a faithful pet is a rat. Elizabeth thought a rat as a pet was a terrible idea and would stick with the doggy treats, and no matter what she wasn’t taking a rat back to Hallgarth.
“Grace on the other hand enjoyed looking at the fish and put some suggestions forward of what she thought would go well in the Hallgarth Fish Tank. Although after she finished her fish and chip lunch she decided the best fish came battered on a plate!”
